Motherhood Mondays: Christmas Recap

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Ours was very nice and mostly low key.  I wasn't sure how I would handle the day thinking about my brother, but as usual Phillip did an awesome job of making sure that I stayed happy and had plenty else to think about.

Be prepared for picture overload here!  A few days before Christmas we had a get together with my Dad because he headed out of town for Christmas.  Phillip gave out the handprint ornaments that we made and they were a huge hit!  We also celebrated some birthdays because there are four December birthdays in my family one of which is on Christmas Day and another on Christmas Eve!

Kissing my grandfather... so sweet!

Me and my girl!

We spent Christmas Eve at my Mom's house.  My grandmother got Phillip and Natalie the sweetest gifts.  Phillip got a new piece for his Thomas train track and she got Natalie a little soft baby doll.  We had a really nice time and my mom made an amazing dinner of course!

Me and my mom and two sisters.
When we got home, Phillip and I got ready for Santa by putting out some cookies and milk.  He was VERY excited.

Christmas morning was spent at our house with my in laws and sister and brother in law.  The kids got way too many toys and had a great time.  I made a delicious cinnamon roll cake for breakfast that was devoured.  I'll share the recipe soon.

Coming down to the living room... he was SO excited!!  The snowman PJ's are from Smocked Threads by Cecil and Lou.

He spots the presents!

Showing off some presents!

I actually managed to get some sweet shots of the two littles by the Christmas tree but I realized as I was writing this that I never got them off the camera!  More for later this week I guess.  Tonight we are keeping it super low key.  My Dad and stepmother are coming over to watch some movies and have snacks and champ.  I've been dying for an occasion to make champagne jello shots so we will be enjoying some of those while we ring in the new year in comfy pj's :)

Here's wishing y'all a wonderful New Year's Eve and I'll see you in 2013!

Fashion Friday: OOTDs and Cleaning Out

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I know we did and it was such a fun and relaxing week. I'm in major clean out mode now. Something about all the decorations and presents after Christmas just makes me need to clean up and clean out! We've already taken down the tree, which is sad, but necessary because it was really starting to go down hill. Also, we will be heading out of town for a little trip and it will be nice to come back to a clean house.

I decided to start taking pictures of some of my outfits to help me have inspiration on some of those mornings when I'm staring at the clothes in my closet and can't figure out what to wear. I also love seeing other people's outfit ideas so hopefully these will help some of you! It's finally been cold enough here to wear wintery clothing, which is great!

I apologize for the quality of these pictures. Clearly I need to play around with the lighting in my bathroom or start taking these with the real camera. It's just so quick and easy to snap a phone pic!

Fashion Friday: The Look for Less and Kendra Scott

Happy Friday everyone! We are off to Dallas for the weekend to visit some family. Wish us luck for the four hour drive with the littles!I have a couple of totally random fashion related things for you today. First, remember the fabulous Lilly Pulitzer Elsa top I've been raving about?Well, I found a pretty darn cute and MUCH cheaper alternative at Old Navy of all places.

So, it's not silk and there aren't all of the color/pattern options, but it looks close!

$138 versus

For only $29!!! Available in pink, white, navy, yellow, mint, and olive green here.

Second, I'm officially obsessed with Kendra Scott.  I know she's been hot for a while, but I really had only been seeing people wearing the larger dangly (is that a word??) earrings that she makes, which generally just don't look good on me.  But, the other day I popped into her new store here and found some to die for and relatively affordable earrings I could see myself wearing all the time.  Here are a couple I would love to have:

Carly Stud in Turquoise

Tavi Stud in Green - I think these would be perfect to wear on Christmas!

P.S. If you sign up for the Kendra Scott email updates, they will send you a 15% off coupon!

My last little bit of fashion randomness is so silly but I just have to share.  I have very blonde eyelashes so I cannot live without mascara.  I generally just pick up some random tube that intrigues me at the grocery or drugstore because I feel like all mascara seems to basically work the same at least if you layer it enough.  However, on a whim I picked up two new kinds the other day and I decided to start wearing them together.  I think I may have stumbled on to something here.  The first is one of the fiber mascaras by Maybelline.  It's called Illegal Lengths... silly I know :)  The other is Maybelline Mega Plus Volume Express.

The Illegal Length did seem to make my lashes a bit lengthier, but alone it just didn't give my lashes the fullness I was looking for.  Together though...

Ok, the lighting is weird, but don't my lashes look kind of fantastic??

Alright, that's all for today folks.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend and you're able to wrap up all of your Christmas errands!

Thursday Thoughts: To Do Lists

Whew ok, so I have five minutes to sit and breathe finally. I apologize in advance for the randomness of this post, but I have a lot on my mind today.

I just spent 15 minutes rocking this little guy to sleep. I'm thankful he still likes me to do that every once in a while.

I feel like I'm being pulled in a million different directions right now and my mental to do list is a mile long. At the end of the day though, I'm trying to remember that my real to do list consists of three things: feed, love, and teach my little ones. Everything and anything else is gravy.

I thought I'd share a poem that I absolutely love and totally sums up the season of life I'm in right now.

Song for a Fifth Child
by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

I really want to slow down and treasure these times with my babies because they're everything to me. Life is too short to spend working or cleaning or doing anything that takes time away from those you love.

One year ago today was the last time I saw my brother alive. I'm still filled with so much regret when I think of wasted time and self-absorption that kept me from getting to spend more time with him. I still catch myself forgetting sometimes that he's not here. It's only a moment where I think "I wonder what Tom will be bringing to the party?" Or "Tom would think this is hilarious! I have to tell him about this!" It only lasts for a second and then I'm filled with such sadness it takes my breath away.

The last time I saw him didn't feel like the last time. It wasn't anything special and I don't think we hugged or even said I love you. I try hard not to let myself dwell too much on that day, my mistakes, or how much I miss him. There are some places I just don't let my mind go. But I do think about how I won't ever let another day pass without telling the most important people in my life how much I love them and making sure that I show them how much I love them.

"So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep. I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep."

Natalie is Five Months!

Natalie - you are 5 months old!!

You weigh almost 14 lbs and we haven't been to the doctor so I'm not sure how tall but you are definitely growing.

You wear a size 3-6 months clothes, and a size 2 diaper.
You are still exclusively breastfeeding and you nurse about 7 times a day.
You sleep about 10-11 hours at night and take 2 to 3 naps.  Sleeping through the night is officially a thing of the past!  Daddy has been helping out lately though so we hope to get you back to only waking once or twice.

You are becoming a MUCH happier girl these days.  You love to smile and stick out your tongue when you're happy.

You roll over both ways and can push all the way up onto your hands. You can just about sit on your own!  You still don't love tummy time, but it's getting better.

You discovered Miss Pitty Pat this week and you are fascinated to say the least.

You love being in the bouncer now and watching Mickey Mouse with your big brother.

I think I realized as I was looking through these pictures that you are really getting to be a big girl.  Before I know it, this first year will be over and you won't be my little baby anymore so I better slow down and treasure this time.

I love you baby girl!

Big brother wanted a picture too :)

Wednesday Whereabouts

We've been busy! Somehow I've been managing on extremely minimal sleep and we've been cramming in the holiday fun, ha! Here's a little photo recap of the happenings - warning picture overload!!

Riding on the zoo train with GiGi... it was cold!

The train tunnel at the zoo was filled with lights and decor for Christmas and Phillip didn't know quite what to make of it :)

I wore my new Lilly Elsa top (Bloomingdales still has this top on sale if you wear an XS!!) twice in one weekend... don't judge!  Pictured here with Seven Roxanne Skinny jeans in black and my magenta Tory Burch Reva flats(old but similar here).

A little impromptu photo sesh by the tree!

A visit from JoJo (Brian's mom).  They LOVE her!

My cutie in a santa hat, enough said.

Phillip made ornaments to give as gifts to his grandparents and great grandparents.  This was actually a total success!

We stayed off pinterest and just used good old fashioned salt dough.

We painted pottery at our local Mad Potter.

We made a platter for cookies for Santa.

And Phillip painted a tile of his own so I could add a few finishing touches :)

No cute outfit links here... don't judge, haha!

I'm not particularly artistic so I think it turned out pretty well... especially considering my helpers!

I got terrible pictures, but we went to Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo with Phillip's bff.

He had a great time!

By the way, do y'all like the new look around here? I've been wanting something a bit simpler for a while now.
